Workers Protest Chemical Peril

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Workers walked off the job at a chemical company today because of revelations that more than 30 members of the work force suffered some form of liver damage from working with hazardous materials.
About 40 non-union employees walked out of the Uretek Inc. factory at about 6 a.m. and set up picket lines in a bitter wind outside the old, red-brick building. Uretek was recently found guilty of hazardous waste disposal violations.
