City Basketball Playoffs : Green and Mills Lead Fairfax to Victory Over Manual Arts

Fairfax High School got 28 points from J.D. Green and 24 from Chris Mills to beat Manual Arts, 82-75, in the quarterfinal round of the City 4-A basketball playoffs Wednesday at Fairfax.
Sean Higgins, a senior forward, had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Lions, the top-seeded City team.
Green, also a senior forward, had 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Mills, a junior center, chipped in 10 rebounds for Fairfax (23-0), which last season was knocked out of the playoffs in the quarterfinal round.
The Lions will play Dorsey in their semifinal game at 9:15 p.m. Friday in the second game of a doubleheader at the Sports Arena.
Manual Arts, which finished its season 15-7, was led by Jemarl Baker’s 18 points.
Crenshaw 83, Fremont 79--John Staggers, a junior, had 28 points to lead the Cougars, the No. 2-seeded team in the 4-A. Crenshaw (18-4) will play Cleveland at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Sports Arena. Fremont ended its season 11-12.
Dorsey 64, Palisades 63--Anthony Thomas scored 16 points and Von Shuller 15 as the Dons (16-5) beat the Dolphins (14-9) in a 4-A game at Dorsey.
Cleveland 94, El Camino Real 57--Junior guard Michael Gray scored 8 of his 28 points in the first quarter as the Cavaliers took a 30-12 lead. Senior guard Andre Anderson came off the bench to score 20 points for Cleveland (19-3). Sean Davis had 11 for El Camino Real (8-14).
Los Angeles 65, Grant 45--Larry Lewis scored 16 points and Chris Knight added 15 for the Romans at L.A. Los Angeles advanced to play Birmingham, a 56-48 winner over University, in the 3-A semifinals Friday. Los Angeles is 15-9. Grant ended its season 11-11.
