An arson fire at the vacant Dana Junior High School in Point Loma about 12:45 a.m. Friday caused $25,000 in damage, the Fire Department reported.
When firefighters arrived at 12:48 a.m., smoke and fire could be seen from the second floor of the school, at Chatsworth Boulevard and Narragansett Avenue, Fire Department spokesman Larry Cooke said.
“Firefighters had to gain access to the fire by laddering the building and entering through windows,” Cooke said. It took 24 firefighters about 20 minutes to control the blaze.
The Metro Arson Strike Team also found signs of two other fires, probably set by transients to cook food or stay warm, Cooke said.
