Gov. George Deukmejian has named a former associate superintendent of the Clovis Unified School District as his education adviser. Peter G. Mehas, 47, replaces William Cunningham, who retired this year. Mehas, a Republican, was an administrator for the Clovis schools for 12 years. He taught education courses at Fresno State University from 1972 to 1979, was principal of a Clovis high school and has served on a number of statewide education advisory committees. He will earn $75,000 a year.
