Costa Mesa Man Wins Community Relations Award

James Carnett, director of marketing and community relations for Orange Coast College, was named Wednesday as “National Communicator of the Year” for 1986 by the National Council for Community Relations.
The group honored Carnett during its national convention in Las Vegas. The award is the highest the council bestows.
The council is an organization of community college public affairs and government affairs professionals.
Carnett, 42, who lives in Costa Mesa, has been with Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa since 1971. He has won 13 awards from the California Assn. of Community Colleges, including seven first-place state awards for feature writing. He also has won 16 national awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America.
