Morning Report states that Lotte Lenya “dominated the Berlin stage in the 1920s, ‘30s and early ‘40s.
As anyone familiar with major figures in theater history knows, Lenya fled Germany with her husband Kurt Weill immediately after Hitler was elected in early 1933. After a brief time in Paris, they immigrated to the United Staes, where they both remained permanently. Lenya did not return to Germany until the mid-1950s, then briefly.
