A three-hour standoff between police and a man who was suspected of beating his common-law wife ended when tear gas was fired into his Hollywood apartment, prompting him to surrender peacefully. Jerzy Krzemkowski, 39, was arrested for investigation of cohabitational abuse, said Police Sgt. John Zrofsky. Police arrived at the apartment after the suspect’s common-law wife, who was not identified, complained that Krzemkowski had beaten her and had fired random shots in the apartment. When Krzemkowski refused to leave his apartment, nearby residences were evacuated and a special weapons and tactics team used tear gas to force the man outside.
