At the start of the week, Daniel Murphy sophomore John Sacchi had a base hit in each of his team’s 23 games. The shortstop-pitcher was batting .441 (30 for 68) and had 10 runs batted in and 11 stolen bases. In 38 innings as a pitcher, he had a 3-3 record with an earned-run average of 3.50 and 30 strikeouts.
Holes in one were scored at Los Angeles Municipal golf courses by Temple Matthews of Santa Monica at Penmar, Raymond H. Wrixon of West Los Angeles at Rancho Park and Beverlee Gersh and Bernard Gietter, both of West Los Angeles, at Rancho’s nine-hole course.
More were by Al Whyte of West Los Angeles at Penmar and by William D. Wigham of Culver City and Connie Jo Hamilton of Santa Monica at the Rancho nine-hole layout.
West Los Angeles College golfer Mark Corley had an ace in a practice round at Rancho.
Chris Baxter shot a gross of 32 for nine holes to win the A flight in the April tournament of the Penmar Men’s Golf Club. Other flight winners and their grosses were John Griffin, B, 35; Leon Gross, C, 36; Fred Hopper, D, 41, and Peter Jones, temporary handicaps, 40.
