Emile Francis, who guided the Hartford Whalers from last place to fourth place in the overall NHL standings in four seasons as president and general manager, signed a new five-year contract, the team announced.
Francis’ new contract is worth about $1.2 million to $1.3 million over the five years, according to sources close to the Whalers. He still has one year remaining on his original five-year contract.
