Dodgers Have Finally Found Their Man
In response to Mike Downey’s column (May 4) in which he listed how well former Dodger players are doing: Big Deal. OK, I agree the Dodgers blew it when they traded Sid Fernandez, but we can blame Steve Howe for that one.
But I am sick and tired of hearing about how well Sid Bream and Greg Brock are doing. The fact is, they were dogs in Los Angeles. And, Mike, does the name Franklin Stubbs ring a bell? Here’s a guy who can hit righties and lefties, can play first base and the outfield, can bunt for a base hit, steal a base and hit for average and with power. I think, after four years, the Dodgers have finally found their man.
Secondly, to mention Candy Maldonado is absurd. Here’s another guy who couldn’t hit in the big city. After all, Mike, do the names Guerrero and Marshall sound familiar? Where would Maldonado fit into that outfield?
Your comments should have been about the guys the Dodgers got in return: Diaz, Bailor, Trevino, Leary and Madlock. Now that’s the biggest joke of all.
