Leave it to a director to make a point visually. During testimony Tuesday at a congressional hearing in Washington into the colorization controversy, director Sydney Pollack brought out an enlarged black-and-white Ansel Adams photograph of a stark canyon scene, and then displayed a garishly colored version of the photo. Pollack displayed the two photos to subcommittee chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and asked, “Which one do you think is the preferable version?” Leahy, an amateur photographer, paused a moment before pointing to the colorized photo and saying ruefully, “I don’t know, but if I took the picture, it would probably look something like that.”
