“Beverly Hills Cop II” busted box-office records right and left as grosses swelled close to $41 million in only six days of release. The Eddie Murphy crash-and-burn comedy--which industry sources say cost about $28 million to make--has thus far set the following records: Highest one-day gross, $9.7 million; highest three-day gross, $26.3 million, and largest initial opening (in terms of number of screens), with the movie opening in 2,326 theaters. “Beverly Hills Cop II” also racked up the best opening-day box office so far this year, with $4.2 million on May 20. Its total take over the Memorial Day weekend (considered four days in the movie business)--$33,014,153--fell just short of breaking the record held by “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” which grossed $33,936,113 in 1984.
