American Multi-Cinema Inc. (AMC) has announced plans for a seven-screen theater complex on the site of the present J. J. Newberry variety store at Arizona Avenue and 3rd Street in Santa Monica.
Solberg + Lowe Architects, Santa Monica, has designed the more than $8-million, 45,000-square-foot complex--which includes 6,000 square feet of retail food space--for the developers, AMC and Arizona/Third Street Partnership. D & B Realty of Santa Monica negotiated the long-term lease.
AMC has 68 screens in 12 complexes in the Los Angeles area, including a 10-screen theater that opened last December adjacent to the Golden Mall in Burbank, according to Greg Rutkowski of the West Division of AMC.
