The Navy said it will consider a compensation claim by a fisherman who says a Trident nuclear submarine got tangled in his net and collided with his fishing boat in the Hood Canal west of Seattle. Rod Twiddy said the submarine collided Friday with his small boat, causing only minor damage to the vessel but destroying his $6,000 fishing net. The incident occurred in waters commonly used by submarines based at the Trident Nuclear Submarine Base in Bangor, Wash. Twiddy said a Navy boat clearing a path for the submarine passed by his boat twice without telling him to move out of the way before the submarine advanced toward his vessel.
