Local News in Brief : Building Limits Studied
- Share via
The Hermosa Beach City Council on Tuesday adopted a resolution directing the Planning Department to study the feasibility of limiting construction on lots zoned R-2 to two dwelling units per structure.
Currently, an unlimited number of dwelling units per structure can be built on R-2 property provided that the lots are large enough to contain 1,750 square feet for each unit.
Such a limit is expected to create more detached structures rather than bulkier multiunit buildings. The study would make a recommendation for distances between structures on the same lot.
The change under study would not alter densities in R-2 zones, but rather would seek to preserve the character of neighborhoods by reducing the bulk of new developments, according to a Planning Department official.
At the same meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Etta Simpson was designated mayor. Simpson was succeeded by Councilman Jim Rosenberger. Their nine-month terms will end in August, 1988.
