Local News in Brief : Quake Aid Hot Line Opens

Starting today, Southern California residents who suffered uninsured losses in the October earthquake can apply for federal and state assistance by telephone.
A toll-free disaster hot line (1-800-338-7693) will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m Monday through Saturday, according to a federal-state coordinating office in El Monte.
As of Tuesday night, 21,678 people had registered in person at application centers for temporary housing assistance, loans and grants available to individuals and families and for long-term, low-interest loans for businesses.
