Two-sport star Riccardo Ingram of Georgia Tech, last year’s Atlantic Coast Conference athlete of the year, was banned from further college competition for accepting money from an agent.
Ingram, a defensive back in football and an outfielder in baseball, was declared ineligible by school officials in Atlanta after they learned the senior had accepted money from agents Jim Abernethy and Gary Wilson, a violation of National Collegiate Athletic Assn. rules.
Ingram told football Coach Bobby Ross that he received at least $4,000 from Abernethy and Wilson.
Abernethy confirmed that he had paid Ingram, saying he did it to stay competitive. “Every major athlete at every major school is signed by an agent,” Abernethy said.
