French choreographer Maurice Bejart on Tuesday became Grand Officer of the Order of the Crown, one of Belgium’s highest honorary titles. The 59-year-old Bejart, founder of Brussels’ Ballet of the 20th Century, received the honor that is usually reserved for heads of state from King Baudouin. Bejart spent 27 years in Brussels. He left this summer after a conflict with the director of Brussels’ Monnaie Theatre, where Bejart was based, and said he wanted to seek new artistic challenges in Lausanne, Switzerland.
