Tons of Salt Shield Escape

STADE, West Germany — A West German truck driver smuggled an East German nurse to West Germany by hiding her under several tons of salt in the back of his vehicle, police said on Tuesday. A spokesman said the driver went to Halle-Neustadt in East Germany to pick up his cargo. He had built a special metal container on the back of the truck in which his friend could hide. The salt was poured on top.
