A man stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of killing his estranged wife in a McDonald’s parking lot during an argument, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies said.
David Nicholson and his wife, Kathy, were standing behind the fast-food restaurant at Janss and Moorpark roads about 8:30 p.m. Thursday when Nicholson allegedly shot her twice in the head with a handgun, said Lt. George Conahey. She was pronounced dead at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, he said.
Nicholson was taken into custody immediately after the shooting, but subsequently was released to base authorities pending further investigation, Conahey said.
Nicholson, who was arrested at the base at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, was booked at the Thousand Oaks jail on suspicion of murder, Conahey said. He was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
