The Washington Summit : Raisa Gorbachev Gets a Fast Look Around Capital

WASHINGTON — Soviet First Lady Raisa Gorbachev grabbed a quick cup of coffee at the White House and made a hasty motor tour of the capital Tuesday, stopping only at the Jefferson Memorial.
“Too little time,” she lamented to reporters who scrambled to follow her motorcade to its unannounced destination.
In the morning, Mrs. Gorbachev had coffee and pastries in the White House Green Room with First Lady Nancy Reagan.
Despite reports that she was upset with the Soviet First Lady for responding late to a social invitation, Nancy Reagan said the encounter was “pleasant,” according to her press secretary, Elaine Crispen.
Crispen said the two women discussed historic preservation of old buildings, Russian history and what sites Mrs. Gorbachev might want to see on her tour.
