Gray Retires as Coach of Grossmont Baseball

Bill Gray, Grossmont High School’s baseball coach for 16 years, has retired from coaching, Grossmont Union School District officials announced Wednesday.
Gray, 39, was hired in 1972 at age 23. His teams won four Grossmont League championships and went to the section playoffs seven times.
Gray, the Grossmont League coach of the year in 1976, 1979 and 1981, compiled a record of 190-178. He was a former section player of the year and played two seasons in the Minnesota Twin farm system.
Gray will continue at the school as an English teacher. His successor has not been named.
