A man carrying an Irish Republican Army flag rushed at Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and tried to assault her outside her New York City hotel, police said. Sarah Ferguson apparently was not injured in the incident, which occurred in front of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Sgt. Raymond O’Donnell said. Michael Shanley, 22, was arrested and taken into custody by federal agents, O’Donnell said. The duchess was in New York to attend a gala performance Thursday night of “The Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway.
