Santa Ana Edges Glendale, 54-53

Santa Ana High School made four consecutive free throws in the final minute Tuesday to hold off Glendale, 54-53, in a 4-A Southern Section boys’ basketball playoff game at Hoover High School in Glendale.
Santa Ana (25-3) led, 50-47, with 38 seconds left when senior guard Scootie Lynwood made both ends of a one-and-one to put Santa Ana ahead, 52-47.
Glendale’s Justin Lord made a three-point basket with 14 seconds left to cut the lead to 52-50.
Guard Leo Leon made both ends of a one-and-one with eight seconds left to put Santa Ana ahead, 54-50. Glendale (21-5) finished the scoring with a three-point shot by Jeff Sofro as time ran out.
It was the second close playoff game for Santa Ana, which defeated Dominguez, 54-52, Friday in the first round.
Four Santa Ana players scored in double figures, led by Willie Lane’s 13 points. Leon added 12 points and Lynwood 11. Bobby Joyce had 11 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.
Santa Ana plays Buena Friday in a quarterfinal game at Rancho Santiago College.
