Violist Paul Neubauer will replace Thomas Riebl in a Da Camera Society recital tonight at Doheny Mansion of Mount St. Mary’s College. Riebl reportedly has been ill with influenza, and has returned to his native Vienna.
Born in Los Angeles, Neubauer made his solo debut at 13 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The 25-year-old, Juilliard-trained musician is currently principal violist with the New York Philharmonic.
Neubauer’s agenda includes the local premiere of Penderecki’s “Cadenza” for unaccompanied viola, and Angeleno composer John Biggs’ “Invention for Viola and Tape.” Schumann’s “Marchenbilder,” which Riebl was to play, and works by Brahms, Frescobaldi and Zimbalist complete the program, which will be accompanied by pianist Margo Garrett.
