Gap Inc.’s earnings increased 2% to $69.6 million for 1987. Sales totaled $1.062 billion, up 25%. The San Bruno, Calif., retailer said the results reflect slower consumer spending, which also forced the firm to cut its expansion plans for its Banana Republic unit to 15 new stores from 25.
