College Spring Sports : No-Hitter by Dow Leads Moorpark

Sophomore De Dow pitched her first college no-hitter as Moorpark opened defense of its Western State Conference women’s softball title by trouncing Ventura, 11-0, Friday at Moorpark.
Dow, who led Canoga Park High to the City Section 4-A Division final in 1986, struck out 9 and walked 2. She retired 21 of 23 batters, including 14 in a row. Dow (5-4) allowed only two balls to be hit out of the infield and did not allow a runner past first base.
Malia Ouzts, last season’s WSC Player of the Year, led an 11-hit attack for Moorpark (9-7-1) by going 2 for 3 with 1 run scored.
College of the Canyons 4, Santa Monica 0--Diana Franklin was 2 for 3, including an RBI triple in the fifth inning, to lead the Cougars in a Western State Conference game at Canyons.
Lisa Stanley and Ann Jeffries had 2 hits each for Canyons (9-3, 1-0). Pitcher Regina Aguirre (9-3) pitched a complete game.
CS Northridge 4-1, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 0-0--Beth Onestinghel was 3 for 6 with 3 RBIs and scored a run for CSUN (7-8, 4-0 in conference) in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. doubleheader at San Luis Obispo.
Onestinghel drove in 2 runs in the first game and the winning run in the first inning of the second game.
Lisa Martin (2-1) and Debbie Dickmann (3-1) both pitched 2-hitters for Northridge, the 6-time defending CCAA champion.
BASEBALL
Cal State Long Beach 7, Cal State Northridge 4--The 49ers scored 3 runs in the seventh inning to win the nonconference game at Long Beach.
For Northridge (8-16), Rob Scott hit a home run and Rusty McLain and Mark Bowen each had 2 hits.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Valley 77, Rio Hondo 26--Dave Hale and Dave Worden were double winners for the Monarchs in a Southern California Conference meet at Valley.
Hale won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.4 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 51.2 seconds. Worden won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:54) and the 500 freestyle (5:48.1).
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Valley 104, Rio Hondo 27--Shawna Sacks qualified for the state junior college championships by winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5:26.8 during the Southern California Conference final at Valley.
MEN’S TENNIS
Pierce 9, Hancock 0--Pierce improved to 7-0, 6-0 in conference play at Hancock. The Brahmas have won 34 consecutive matches in conference.
