Lamoureux Says He’ll Attend UCLA

Dre Lamoureux, Los Alamitos High School’s senior center, said Thursday he has orally committed to UCLA.

Lamoureux led his team to the Southern Section 3-A basketball quarterfinals this past season, averaging 21 points and 13 rebounds and shooting 63% from the field. He set school records for season and career field-goal percentage and a single-game scoring record with 42 points.

“UCLA is a good situation for me, especially academically,” Lamoureux said. “It will really help my basketball skills.”

Lamoureux, who played basketball only in his junior and senior years, was not recruited until the end of this season. At the time of UCLA’s offer, he had received no other firm scholarship offers.
