WEEKEND BOX OFFICE : New Blood Refreshes Top Five

Slowly but surely the veterans of the winter box office wars are being replaced by the spring recruits. Among this weekend’s top five, only “Good Morning, Vietnam,” being distributed by Buena Vista, remains from earlier days. (Touchstone/Disney’s “Three Men and a Baby” is still playing in 1,162 theaters and has cracked the $180-million mark.) “Police Academy 5,” from Warner Bros., won the weekend, and Touchstone/Disney’s “D.O.A.” logged a fairly strong opening despite several reviews that panned the remake of the 1949 film noir .
* Robert Redford’s first directorial effort since 1980’s “Ordinary People” got generally laudatory reviews, but “The Milagro Beanfield War’s” risky three-theater-three-city opening weekend was called disappointing by some industry analysts. The film is playing in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto.
