Fijian Prime Minister Kamisese Mara arrived in London on a mission to restore ties with the British Crown that were severed after two military coups last year. Buckingham Palace said that Mara, who took over the government with army backing last May, will not be granted an audience with Queen Elizabeth. But a government spokesman said he will meet with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Foreign Secretary Geoffrey Howe. The Commonwealth expelled Fiji after it declared itself a republic last October.
