Naked Woman Causes Drivers to Collide

A naked woman crossing a Silver Lake intersection early Saturday apparently caused two distracted drivers to crash into each other and then stole the ambulance of the paramedics who arrived to help the victims. She drove the ambulance onto the Glendale Freeway in the wrong direction before crashing into a bread truck, police said.

Valerie Morales, 27, of Los Angeles was arrested and taken to the County-USC Medical Center jail ward on suspicion of auto theft and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Los Angeles Police Lt. Dave Waterman said. She was in satisfactory condition.

According to Waterman, the incident began about 6 a.m. when a naked woman entered a crosswalk at Glendale Boulevard and Effie Street.

“She was walking down the street naked and apparently a couple of cars weren’t watching the road at that point and bashed into each other,” he said.

Paramedics arrived, and while the two accident victims were receiving treatment for minor injuries outside the ambulance, the woman got in the ambulance, whose engine was running, and drove off.

The woman went about a mile, then headed north in the southbound lanes of the freeway. She crashed into a bread truck, slightly injuring its driver and damaging the ambulance. She leaped out of the ambulance and ran along the side of the freeway until a passing sheriff’s deputy caught her, Waterman said.
