Soviet leaders have agreed to the creation of the first Jewish religious training institute in the Soviet Union in 50 years, a leading Israeli religious scholar said in Jerusalem. Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, an internationally renowned Talmudic expert, told a news conference that the creation of a Jewish institute is part of a broader agreement to include Soviet participation with Western scholars in researching great numbers of Jewish documents and manuscripts lying untouched in Soviet storehouses and libraries.
