Monday is Memorial Day. Banks, government offices and public schools will be closed, and there will be no mail delivery. A number of ceremonies will be presented by local veterans groups to commemorate the holiday.
Today, participating veterans will speak on “The Meaning of Memorial Day” at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Church of Orange County, 1120 W. Santa Ana St. in Anaheim.
On Monday, the Orange County Friends of Nicaraguan Children will sponsor a ceremony and press conference honoring the Veterans Peace Convoy to Nicaragua in the Irvine City Hall Council Chambers, 17200 Jamboree Road, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Speakers will include Mayor Larry Agran and Gerry Condon, national coordinator of the Veterans Peace Convoy. All events are open to the public.
