Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a pit bull terrier that attacked them early Saturday on an East Los Angeles street, authorities said.
Neither Sgt. Agustin Ortiz nor Deputy Mario Cuevas were injured in the attack, which occurred shortly before 2 a.m. near Brooklyn and Townsend avenues while they were questioning area residents about an unrelated disturbance, Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Dan Cox said. The 75-pound dog, whose owner could not be located, was shot 11 times before it finally gave up its attack and died.
