Tiger President Undergoes Eye Surgery

DETROIT — Jim Campbell, president and chief executive officer of the Detroit Tigers, was in satisfactory condition Saturday at Henry Ford Hospital after surgery for a detached retina, hospital officials said.

Campbell underwent three hours of emergency surgery Friday night, spokeswoman Chris Kassab said.

“The surgery went well, and he’ll probably remain in the hospital until midweek, the doctor estimates,” she said.

Campbell, 64, complained of eye problems Friday afternoon during a meeting in Chicago. He was examined on his return to Detroit by Dr. Cornelius McCole, who recommended the surgery, the Tigers said.
