Democrats and ‘Jewish Patch’
As a person who is involved in Democratic presidential politics, I am very disappointed in the 1988 Democratic Convention. As Rabbi Hier states, not only is there no place in the quilt for Jews, but also not in the hierarchy of the Democratic National Committee.
Among the appointees made to the committee is Ruth Ann Skaff, “a vocal supporter of the Palestine Liberation Organization.” This appointment was made to appease 55 Arab delegates. As Rabbi Hier states, none of the nominees mentioned Israel. The only mention was the call for Palestinian homeland as part of the minority plank. It is time for our Jewish and non-Jewish friends within the Democratic Party to stand up for Israel and the American Jewish community.
