Police detectives Sunday continued their investigation into a drive-by shooting that claimed the life of a Glendale man.
Jacobo Ortiz, 49, was found at 9:15 p.m. Saturday slumped over the steering wheel of his car, which was parked in the lot of a liquor store near Glendale Avenue and Windsor Road, said Glendale police Sgt. James Fitzgerald. Witnesses told police the victim was shot by the passenger of a passing pickup truck as he sat in his car.
Ortiz was taken by ambulance to Glendale Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:20 p.m.
Several people saw the shooting and detectives were questioning them Sunday, said Sgt. Randy Tampa. He said investigators had determined that the shooting was not gang-related.
Witnesses described the person who shot Ortiz as a Latino in his 30s, police said. The weapon was a handgun, but Fitzgerald said homicide detectives had not yet determined its caliber.
