Village Christian 50, Leffingwell Christian 0--Village Christian running back Joe Everett took a pitch from quarterback Matt Bates and ran 61 yards for a touchdown on the Crusaders’ opening play in a nonleague game at Kennedy High.
Bates, who completed 3 passes for 126 yards in the first half, connected with Brian McEvoy on a 56-yard touchdown pass to give Village Christian a 20-0 halftime lead.
Drew Martenson, starting in place of Bates in the second half, threw for one touchdown and rushed for another in the Crusaders’ 23-point fourth quarter.
Everett finished with 110 yards and a touchdown in 8 carries. Craig Hudspeth rushed 7 times for 56 yards and a touchdown.
Leffingwell Christian’s Jason Carpenter rushed for 36 yards in 15 carries.
