SDSU Defensive End to Miss Stanford Game Due to Sprained Ankle

San Diego State defensive end Milt Wilson has been ruled out Saturday’s football game at Stanford because of a sprained ankle, trainer Don Kaverman said Thursday.

Wilson, who will not travel with the team to Stanford today, likely will be replaced in the starting lineup by Pio Sagapolutele, a sophomore from Honolulu.

Two other injured defensive starters--inside linebacker Lee Brannon (bruised thigh) and lineman Brad Burton (compound dislocated finger)--did not practice Thursday but have been upgraded to probable, Kaverman said. Burton was fitted Thursday for a removable cast to protect his index finger, which was injured in practice Tuesday. The cast, which will prevent Burton from moving his hand, must be padded with enough foam to meet officials’ requirements before Burton will be permitted to play.

Tailback Paul Hewitt returned to practice for the first time since spraining his ankle Sunday night against Air Force and is expected to start.
