Joyful Joanie Wins Los Alamitos Feature

One night after qualifying three horses for the $325,000 Ed Burke Memorial Futurity, quarter horse trainer Bob Gilbert was back in the winner’s circle after Joyful Joanie’s impressive victory in Wednesday’s allowance feature at Los Alamitos Race Course.

With jockey Steve Treasure, Joyful Joanie caught early leader Kiptillos Phoebe midway through the 350 yards and drew away to a 3/4-length win in 17.71 seconds.

Kiptillos Phoebe, ridden by Jim Lewis, held on for second, followed by Diane Darling, Out Of The Best, Brenda Boone, What An Effort and Zip Cash.

Gilbert and Treasure joined forces to qualify 3 of the 10 finalists to the upcoming Ed Burke Futurity in trials at Los Alamitos Tuesday.
