The California Arts Council has won a $150,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for its individual artists program. The grant, to be received by the council over the next three years, will enable it to award 50 poets $5,000 each this year. The funds are part of an $800,000 grant earmarked for individual artists given to a seven-state coalition. Council Director Robert Reid said the first-of-its-kind coalition will work together to raise private money.
