Atlantic Richfield said crude oil production from Prudhoe Bay, the nation’s largest oil field, has apparently peaked. Arco said it estimates that the average annual production from the field on Alaska’s North Slope will be 1.45 million barrels a day this year and next. It had earlier estimated that production would continue at 1.5 million barrels per day through 1989. The production rate naturally slows as active oil fields get older.
