Quayle Promises an America Free of Drugs, AIDS

LAKE CHARLES, La. — Sen. Dan Quayle promised college students today that a new Republican administration will give them “a drug-free and AIDS-free America.”

The GOP vice presidential nominee, heading for important campaign appearances in Texas, appealed to 2,000 McNeese State University students as “children of the ‘80s” for support in the Nov. 8 elections.

“Let me tell you something, children of the ‘80s, the values of family, future and freedom will never change,” said the Indiana senator, 41, the first baby boomer on a national party ticket.

While listing no specifics, he promised if the GOP ticket headed by Vice President George Bush is elected, “We will do all that we must . . . to give you a drug-free and AIDS-free America.”
