La Verne : Trash Collection Fee Raised
Bills for garbage collection will increase by 95 cents next year to pay for a curb-side recycling program.
Under the program, Webster’s Refuse Disposal, the city’s trash hauler, will provide three plastic containers to each household for storage of newspapers, glass and aluminum. The containers will be picked up by the refuse service every week. The program, which will increase trash bills to $8.25 per month, has been unanimously approved by the City Council.
The 95-cent rate will be maintained for the first year and reviewed annually. The recycled materials will be sold on a weekly basis. Any money the company makes from the recycled material is to be returned to the city, which hopes to provide rebates to residents.
