Local News in Brief : Construction Begins on Anti-Drug Exhibit

Construction began Wednesday at the California Museum of Science and Industry on what sponsors say is the nation’s first permanent exhibit designed to discourage drug abuse by teen-agers.
The exhibit, called “Lifestyle Choices,” is scheduled to open in January at the Exposition Park facility and will utilize video-interactive displays, such as a simulator showing how difficult it is to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The project is co-sponsored by the National Health Foundation and ARCO Corp., which contributed $750,000. It was jointly announced by the foundation, ARCO and the office of First Lady Nancy Reagan, the honorary exhibit chairwoman.
The exhibit will be incorporated into the Los Angeles Unified School District’s drug abuse prevention program.
