Internationally acclaimed distance swimmer Lynne Cox on Thursday will present awards for reading achievements to students at Rossmoor Elementary School.
Cox, a Los Alamitos swimmer famed for her historic swim of the Bering Strait and other difficult long-distance swims, will make the awards as part of two reading-incentive programs at Rossmoor School.
One program, Reading Is Fundamental, is funded by federal money and parent-teacher donations and involves gifts of books. The other program, Castle Rossmoor, rewards students with certificates and prizes if they read a certain number of books.
Awards will be presented to fourth- and fifth-grade students at 9:30 a.m. and to youngsters in grades one to three at 10:30 a.m. The event is open to the public.
