NATIONAL ELECTION RETURNS : State-by-State Election Reports of Key Races and Issues : Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — Vice President George Bush carried Arkansas with its six electoral votes, and Democrats carried three of the state’s four House seats.
With 81% of the votes counted, Bush had 56%, 356,466, and Michael S. Dukakis, 44%, 276,478.
Rep. Bill Alexander (D) was the uncontested winner in the First District.
In the Second District, with 54% of the votes counted, incumbent Rep. Tommy F. Robinson (D) overwhelmed Warren D. Carpenter, 97,123 to 19,811. In the Fourth District, with 48% of the precincts in, incumbent Beryl Anthony Jr. (D) was solidly defeating Roger N. Bell (R), 45,716 to 16,919.
And in the Third District, 35% of the precincts reporting, incumbent John Paul Hammerschmidt (R) was handily defeating David Stewart (D), 48,298 to 15,788.
