Brown-Forman Corp. reported record second-quarter net income of $42.1 million, up 14% from the previous year. Sales fell 2% to $387 million. The Louisville, Ky., beverage and consumer products firm noted that a provision for closing a bottling plant in Stockton lowered income by $5.4 million. The company cited strengthening beverage sales worldwide as the principal reason for the earnings rise.
