Court Upholds Alemany Runner’s Disqualification

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge Wednesday upheld the Southern Section’s disqualification of Alemany High runner Peter De La Cerda.
De La Cerda had qualified for the state Division II cross-country championships Saturday in Fresno by finishing fifth in the Southern Section 3-A Division finals at Mt. San Antonio College last Saturday.
He was disqualified, however, because his father used a megaphone to cheer him on during the race.
A rule of the sport prohibits “anyone associated with a competitor” from providing aid unfairly.
