Geographic Goof?

Interesting piece on Nov. 17 about National Geographic’s holographic cover and special issue on the fate of our environment (“The Geographic’s Graphic World” by Elizabeth Mehren).
But wait a second--$2.8 million for just the cover? True, it will bring attention to the critical state of our world, i.e. environmental destruction, but it seems a very wasteful way to do it. I would think National Geographic could find more environmentally sound ways to spend its money. It seems ludicrous to expend valuable resources of money, time, energy, and then devote an entire issue to discussing the importance of preserving them.
